Healthcare careers that NEED to be on LinkedIn
I have been asked at least 50 times by healthcare workers - doctors to nurses to medical assistants - why be active on LinkedIn? Since I have been a member of LinkedIn for over 11 years, I had to stop and ask myself that question.
I needed a profile on LinkedIn when I wanted to elevate my networking, reflect my professional brand and be exposed to new roles.
I now have over 1500 connections, follow 17 groups to keep up-to-date and communicate with my peers almost daily.
Other reasons to maintain a LinkedIn profile:
1. Be intentional about your career moves
2. Collect references, recommendation & endorsements to be seen
3. Research companies to be knowledgeable for an interview
Careers that REALLY need a profile on LinkedIn
1. Informatics (healthcare IT, data, AI, analytics or EMRs - Epic, Oracle/Cerner) – any role in healthcare with tech
2. Management (CNO, CNIO, COO, Nurse Manager, Service Line Manager) – any role in leadership
3. Sales (vendors, consultancy companies, medical devices, pharma, payer, start-ups) – any role selling, marketing or developing a product in healthcare
What to keep AWAY FROM on LinkedIn
1. Personal information on you and your family (few exceptions)
2. Political views
3. Negative or discouraging comments
